Mendip District Council

You should contact the Housing Options Team on 0300 303 8588 to make a homeless application. Upon receiving the referral Mendip District Council will co-ordinate a visit from the local outreach team. https://www.mendip.gov.uk/homelessness

South Somerset District Council

If you think you’re going to be homeless, contact our housing team on 01935 462462 to make an appointment to see an Officer. https://www.southsomerset.gov.uk/services/housing-and-welfare/homelessness/

If you are referred to YMCA Mendip & South Somerset, we have an 8 bed supported housing project in Wells for people over the age of 25years who find themselves homeless.

This accommodation offers a home and support needed to help a person get back on their feet and access opportunities for building a better future and securing a tenancy.

Deposit Scheme – applicable to 18yrs+ (in Mendip Council area)

We offer a deposit scheme which ‘guarantees’ against damage or theft caused by a tenant; and is equivalent to one month’s rent. This is available for the first year of the tenancy. Applicants should be in receipt of benefits or be on a very low income and have a local connection the Mendip Area.

Tenancy Accreditation Scheme – applicable to 18yrs+ (in Mendip Council area)

An adaptable 6-10 week programme delivered through a modular workbook, which is available to anyone homeless, or at risk of losing their home. This help is offered in order to assist a person to develop the skills and knowledge required to improve their chances of securing and maintaining a tenancy.

Private Rented Sector Scheme – applicable to 25yrs+ (in Mendip Council area)

This scheme provides a practical support service with a primary focus on prevention of homelessness to single homeless people, or couples without dependants; enabling them to access and maintain secure private rented secure housing. We also work closely with landlords to provide continual advice and support.

Move On Scheme – applicable to 16yrs+ (in Mendip Council area)

This scheme links clients with accommodation vacancies in the private rented sector and also assists those who have found their own accommodation. If you are a landlord with a vacancy, please refer to our Landlord scheme and see where we could help.

Landlord Scheme (in Mendip Council area)

Landlords can register with YMCA Mendip & South Somerset and are encouraged to be sympathetic with our client needs. We offer continual support and advice to all landlords registered with us. For further information, please read our Landlords leaflet here.
