#IAMWHOLE is an anti-stigma mental health campaign developed in partnership with the NHS and YMCA, the world’s largest youth charity; and was launched in 2016 by Jordan Stephens, one half of music duo, Rizzle Kicks.
The campaign has been developed as a direct response to the mental health difficulties being experienced by children and young people throughout the UK, Ireland and around the world.
#IAMWHOLE’s key aims:
- Start conversations with young people about mental health
- Educate young people on mental health
- Encourage young people to share their experiences of mental health difficulties
“This year, on World Mental Health Day (10th October), the theme is suicide prevention. Every year close to 800,000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries; and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally” World Health Organisation.
As part of the #IAMWHOLE campaign, YMCA encourages people to throw their support behind WHOLE HOUR; an initiative that champions the importance of self-care and tackles the stigma surrounding mental health difficulties to encourage more young people to speak out, seek help and get support.

What is the YMCA Sleep Easy?
The aim is simple: Sleeping rough so others don’t have to.
Challenge yourself, your family, friends or work colleagues to sleep rough for one night and raise money to help change the lives of vulnerable young people. All the money raised goes directly to our YMCA Mendip & South Somerset housing projects; impacting our community and helping disadvantaged young people build a future.
Last year, a young person was made homeless every hour in England; and hundreds of young people spent at least one night on the streets.
For every rough sleeper in our community, there are dozens more who are sleeping on a friend’s sofa, in a car, or on the move night after night.
Young people experiencing homelessness believe the public don’t care about them.
Sign up to Sleep Easy today and help YMCA Mendip & South Somerset support more young people find a safe place to stay and access the support and resources they need to rebuild their lives. One night really can make a lifetime of difference.

Be Real Campaign
The Be Real Campaign is a national campaign run by YMCA and Dove and was formed in 2014 in response to the Reflections on Body Image report from the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Body Image.
It’s crucial that we teach young people how to feel comfortable in their own body and that looking different isn’t a bad thing. Educating young people about the effects of bullying alongside body confidence will help to tackle this issue where it’s most prevalent, schools.
The Body Confidence Campaign Toolkit for Schools is part of the Be Real Campaign’s mission to tackle body image anxiety in young people to enable them to grow up into body confident adults. Schools can download a free copy of the toolkit at www.berealcampaign.co.uk/schools/
The Be Real Campaign focuses on three areas in which it strives to bring about real change
- Real Education: We want to give children and young people a body confident start to life.
- Real Health: We want healthy living and general wellbeing to be prioritised over just appearance and weight.
- Real Diversity: We want the advertising, fashion, music and media industries to positively reflect what we really look like.
