The average spend on youth services per local authority in 2010/2011 was £7.79 Million, while the planned average spend in 2019/2020 is just £2.5 Million.

This harmful decline in funding to youth services shows no sign of stopping, even though knife crime, mental health difficulties and isolation among young people continue to rise.

YMCA England & Wales’s latest campaign is calling on the Government to prioritise young people and reinvest in youth services by meeting the following:

  1. Reinstate and ring-fence youth services funding to 2010/11 levels
  2. Provide universal youth services and targeted support for all young people
  3. Create a national youth service strategy
